Area needs a squared conversion factor
Area describes a surface, not one edge. A square that measures one foot on each side covers 0.09290304 m² because both dimensions change units. This is why a length factor cannot be applied directly to a number of square feet.

This tool uses the international foot and an acre of 43,560 international square feet. Older US surveys may use survey-foot-based areas; check the source document before comparing precise land records. Gross floor area, usable area, and plot area can also describe different things even when the units match.
If you have a room's length and width, multiply them in the same unit before converting. For irregular rooms, split the shape into simple rectangles and add their areas. A unit conversion alone does not calculate an irregular boundary or determine how much flooring to buy.
